Artie Mouse runs Ol’ Whiskers Tavern, a mouse bar in Miceburg, a quiet city that has been losing residents as an influx of rats have taken over the city with a culture of bullying and fear. The rats chase off Artie’s sister, Lily, during her set at Ol’ Whiskers, leading her to pack up and leave Miceburg for good. After she leaves, their mutual friend, Ben returns, having been transformed into a rat. Sensing Lily is in grave danger, he implores Artie to change himself into a rat to save his sister from the dangerous snake that lurks on the outskirts of town. 

 

Miceburg is a parable about a culture of fear, fascism, genetic manipulation, and understanding what makes you who you truly are. It was commissioned and premiered by the podcast The Latest Draft in 2021.
